Rounds 9 & 10 - Wiscombe Park, 19th & 20th May

Saturday 19th May and faced with a true dilemma. Should I watch the royal wedding, wait in for the cup final or go racing? I am sure you can guess which won!

Joined by two other combatants in AHD and Rob pack we ventured down to Wiscombe for a weekend of competition with 50 points up for grabs. We were blessed with glorious weather.

Strangely our numbers, (myself 78, Rob 79 and AHD 80), did not reflect the running order – in fact it was the complete reverse.

The whole weekend’s competition turned out to be very close indeed. 1st practice left AHD in first place, me second and Rob third.

An intense race followed with AHD continuing to set the pace. Luckily on the 2nd run I managed to find enough in the tank to pull off a very narrow win, with AHD second and Rob third, but all very close.

With the legality of brushing bollards, using undesignated parts of the track, sand bagging, (what me? I deny it all!), and whether all the pies Rob was consuming were in fact pasties and not pies, the main topics of conversation in the paddock, a good day of competition came to an end.

Sunday the glorious weather continued and it would prove to be an even more interesting day of competition.

AHD again set the pace in practice with Rob, having given up the pies, beginning to show his potential in second place.

Luckily for AHD he didn’t have to go hungry as he did manage to stop his runaway car before it flattened his sandwiches.
Rob’s race went from good to even better as he pulled off a very impressive win, leaving me in second and AHD third.

I put Rob’s win down to the fact that he borrowed my air gauge as his wasn’t working and letting out stale Worcestershire air gave him extra impetus.
A well deserved win and a great weekend of racing and banter…..very enjoyable.
