Round 17 - Harewood, Sunday 28th AugustI knew I was in trouble when I saw the entry list, there were only three other contenders, but two were just about the quickest Vixen-type cars in the championship (Steve Dennis 1600M and Mike Roe S4 Vixen) and the other was the current leader (Simon Cole 350i 5.0 ltr), so 4th was probably my best hope.

First practice was on a track that had been rained on for a week and then shrouded in mist and dew all night, needless to day it was slippery, I think it’s the closest thing to ice racing I have ever done. Mr. Cole having excursions on both practice runs, still quicker than me having had quite good runs.
Mr. Dennis was in a gambling mood every time he tried the starter, however this was cured with a big hammer, seemed to do the trick.

Timed runs started and the cast was set, Mr. Cole quickest with the two Vixens fighting it out for glory, the weather had turned dry but threatened to turn at any moment. The rain never came so the times got quicker, even mine. Sadly I could not compete with this august group of gentlemen, but I did manage 4th. Mr. Dennis coming out on top, Mr. Cole 2nd and Mr. Roe 3rd.

A great day in the end after a soggy start, my thanks to my fellow competitors for their company and banter, can’t wait for the next outing, for me it will be Shelsley Walsh on 18th September.
Happy Sprinting, Simon Smith
