Rounds 10 & 11 - Epynt, 22nd & 23rd JuneSocialising, Sun and Sprinting
Epynt is up there as one of the most sociable weekends of the calendar, and this year did not disappoint. We had 6 drivers, Steve Mogg, Mark Everett, Alan Hugh Davies, John Carter and me on Saturday, with the same again on Sunday except with Shunter behind the Chimasala wheel. |
Mark and the lovely Tess arrived on Friday along with AHD, Shunter and me, and we all had a very nice meal at the Usk and Railway Inn in Sennybridge, now under new management. The food was so good, that we booked again for Saturday night, when we were joined by Moggy and his pit mate Rob, as well as John Carter, who had all driven across that morning. A second jolly evening was had by all, the paddock banter was on top form all weekend, and the hill itself wasn't too bad either.
|
Saturday was un-characteristically hot for Epynt, so much so that we were all looking a little pink round the table for dinner that night. Despite the very hot weather, no one managed to quite get to their Personal Bests from last year.
Moggy saved his best run till T2 to take the win, ahead of Mark who was almost a second down, then AHD in third. Carter was ahead of me all day but I managed to find the required ½ second needed to get into fourth place on the last run.

Sunday was still warm but slightly overcast. The officials were keen to try and get through the runs as quickly as possible due to the heavy rain forecast for later that day. They were true to their word and got through the runs much quicker than they did on Saturday. Unfortunately, being in the last batch, we got caught out. The rains started early in the afternoon, and everyone decided to pack up before we were called for T2.
|
But at least everyone had banked one dry timed run just after a very brief lunch break. Mark had given himself a talking to overnight (or was it to do with a new foo foo valve?) and put in his best time of the weekend to take the lead. Moggy, who was a few tenths off his best from Saturday, had to be content with second place. AHD remained in third. Carter, putting in quicker and quicker times all weekend finished fourth, with Shunter fifth, despite beating his previous PB.
