Round 20 - Harewood, Sunday 27th August
We Went Sprinting, It Was Good
When I was discussing being “volunteered” to do the write up with Dave Barrowclough, he told me that “We went sprinting, it was good” would not be acceptable so I have tried to pad it out a bit!
With a last-minute rush of entries, we had 6 cars competing, although Steve Dennis was running with class 6C for some reason.

The day dawned bright but a bit chilly and even though Blower wasn’t there the sun Gods shined on us, so conditions were near perfect.
After the first practice runs, the usual excuses followed; mine being I had never been there before, seemed valid; Simon Smith in his Cosworth-engined S3 developed a misfire, but on a brighter note he found the inspection lamp he had lost, although it had melted and was now useless!

John Carter was making his return after eighteen months having re-built his engine. He even decided to check his tyre pressures after the second run!
Practice two saw most of us improve, however Dave Barrowclough had a spin and didn’t! The handicapped results after practice were as follows: -

With numerous sidecar outfits throwing themselves at the scenery the first timed runs were not had until after lunch.
The first timed runs saw everyone improve except Steve Dennis, but he was still nearly 4 tenths quicker than the second placed John Carter who was in turn just over a tenth quicker than Dave Barrowclough. The second timed runs saw me having a “moment” on the grass losing a second on my previous time and only Dave Barrowclough showing any improvement. As it was unsure whether there would be a third run and I had to be home by six I did not compete in the third run. |
