Round 3 - Harewood, Sunday 9th April
What a Difference a Year Makes!
The 12th April 2016 had us at Harewood with start being delayed due to fog, and very cold and damp conditions. But Sunday 9th 2017 brought us wonderful clear weather with a great view across the course and down to the River Wharfe and Harrogate beyond; you could almost feel the vibrant level of expectation across the whole paddock, this was going to be a good day. |
With Mr Dennis a none starter this left the three amigos Simon Cole, Dave Barrowclough and Dave Wilkins to contend for class B honours, with all of us having this event as our shake down for the 2017 season and in the case Wilkins a welcome return of the Chimbanana from a sabbatical.
The day started as it was going to finish with Cole leading the class followed by Barrowclough and Chimbanana with timing falling throughout the day to give Simon Cole a well-deserved 25 points. During the day we lamented the passing of the Kumho-era when we consider Simon is 3 seconds down on his class win back in 2015. However, on his new Maxsport remoulds – sorry “remanufactured competition tyres” – he was still going to try. Deciding the 350i was much too wobbly when sideways, he proceed to pump up the Maxsports throughout the day: 30/35/40 psi?? We stopped asking. However from Simon’s comments I cannot say he was over enthusiastic about his recent purchase so the hunt continues for the holy grail of tyres. The 888 seems to hold the batten at the moment.

It was also good to see a bunch of the Manchester region TVR club members coming to enjoy the spectacle, and on a day like this it must be one of the best hill climbs for spectators to attend, being able to see almost the whole course from the refreshments area.
The day ended with the three us tucking into to ice lollies waiting for the end of the timed runs and the allowed paddock exit. A nice end to the day.
