Round 10 - Stowe, Sunday 5th JuneService from Stowe
Today’s sermon is taken from Genesis, Revelations and Numbers. In the beginning God sent us some fog and mist, then about 10ish God said “let there be light” and things cleared up a bit. God saw that the light was good, though a little warmth might be nice so gradually turned the thermostat up to about 25 degrees. Unfortunately the good Lord didn’t see fit to quite show any of us clearly where to go after the hairpin of happiness to find the path to the chicane of righteousness (or indeed to get round the first bend for Brother Jeremiah!), so much so it is said that a fellow disciple on his white charger had to stop and ask for directions! |
Just before the second lesson another nearby faith called their believers to church so a respectful truce was called for about 20 minutes.
The second lesson showed the path to be true and the whole congregation improved by several seconds. Before we broke bread together we were called for 1st timed runs. Both Brother Jeremiah and Brother David took the words of a popular hymn a bit too literally and ploughed the (in)field and almost scattered the Marshalls! It seems they were both forgiven their sins by the protectors of the law and their times stood. |
Throughout the service Sister Jo read several verses from the book of Numbers and kept us all informed of the times and positions.
Brother Timothy strayed from the path of holiness during the penultimate lesson and lost over 20 seconds. The final lesson must have been taken from Revelations as it seemed that Bishop Blower had edged Reverend Shunter to 5th place on handicap, this sin cannot go un-punished (and so it was to be, another lesson from Numbers sorted that out later). |

During the service we welcomed Brother Rob and retired Apostle Paddy who shared some verses from the book of Acts, offered their support and broke bread with us.
Times generally improved throughout the afternoon with Brother Jeremiah remaining committed (some say he should be!) and comfortably holding onto 1st, Brother Mark put in a biblical final effort to clinch 2nd spot with Brother David just pipped to 3rd. Then followed Sister Jo. Reverend Shunter, Bishop Blower, Abbot Richard and Brother Timothy.
God looked down on the faithful at the end of the day and saw that Sprinting was good and declared that we should go to the Land of Dragons next week and have another go.
