Round 4 - Gurston, Saturday 16th April

May The Force Be With You

On a recent day in a field not so far away at the birthplace of sprinting an epic battle took place.

The early morning peace was shattered by the engines from the fleet of the evil Empire Starship Chimaera destroyers arriving in the paddock.  Tranquillity returned as their hyper drives were shut down.  The storm troopers climbed out of their vehicles but what’s this, Princess Jo Leia is in a Starship destroyer. Has she been kidnapped by the evil Emperor Steve?  Lord Mark Vader had his Chimaera destroyer specially converted for the day to share with his apprentice ADHD Maul.

Then animals and small children were sent scurrying for cover by the sound of the X-Wing Cerbera fighter of Mark (Chewbacca or actually chew anything and everything).  His wing men James Solo and Warwick AKA Luke both suffered drive failures and could not get to the battlefield.  The storm troopers marched out in formation with Princess Leia to view the battleground.  Upon their return they set about preparing their craft and donning their combat suits and body armour.

Hidden in a corner was the Millennium Falcon recently renamed as the Frankengriff.  The Falcon has seen many battles and still bears most of the scars but it remains the fastest craft in the known galaxy.  Finally the Rebel Alliance fleet was completed by General Moakes in his cruiser cunningly disguised as a V8S.
The question is will Princess Jo escape the Empire clutches and outrun the Emperor?  Can one of the reduced fleet of the Rebel Alliance ships beat the Empire Chimaeras, or will their light drives fail and be captured by the enemy forces?

The battle commenced with the P1 skirmishes.  On the battlefield covered in cosmic dust the empire Chimaeras were in dominant form taking the top 4 places overcoming the depleted rebel forces.  Captain Dave B took a hit and spun out of control. Chewbacca fought a valiant rearguard action in 5th place as the rebel forces retreated to regroup.  The rebels then charged forward for P2 and as the cosmic dust slowly reduced their ships performed better.  The Frankengriff Falcon streaked ahead through the destroyers clearing a path for his wing men.    The day was looking positive with the Rebel Alliance finally ahead of the Empire ships.
But the day was not won, these were just early skirmishes with the real battle about to commence.  A darkness fell over the proceedings.  ADHD Maul went out to warm up his master’s ship and Princess Jo Leia buckled up.  The cosmic dust had all but vanished and the Empire forces regrouped and switched on their tractor beams.  They quickly reeled in the Rebel forces with clever tactics with many of the pilots swarming around the 3 rebels.  Then Mark Vader took over from ADHD Maul.  The hyperdrive was on and he streaked into the lead comfortably outrunning all the other pilots.  The evil Empire Chimaeras occupied 5 or the top 6 place but Princess Jo Leia was slowly planning her escape from the Emperor.

The stage was set for the final phase of the battle.  Hyperdrives were charged, landing gear pressurised and wings polished.  Faces were set, the laughter was nervous. Comfort breaks were taken and belts were tightened.  The forces gathered in the paddock in their battle groups ready for the final onslaught.
Every great story should have a happy ending.  Every pilot improved their performance in the final battle but this tale of heroics ended with a victory for the dark empire forces led by Mark Vader himself.  He posted a personal best to claim victory and defeat the challengers.  The Falcon failed to slingshot round the carousel and was left trailing in Vader’s path to take second place.  But wait Princess Jo found extra reserve in her hyperdrive and secured 3rd to escape from the Emperor.  The rebel forces live to fight another day.
