Three of our members attended the post covid Shelsley, and here is Pete Ash’s report
Shelsley Walsh Sat 25th & Sun 25th July 2020
The weekend of 25/26th July was different to our usual forays to Shelsley Walsh: no spectators!
We were also parked up in the spectator’s car-park, all the road-going classes had been put in there.
Steve Mogg (Moggy) & I were running in class A3(road-going series production cars above 2000cc)
Sat 25th
1st practice went reasonably, but after 10 months of no competition we were both off the pace. 41.76 me, 37.10 Moggy
Unfortunately, between 1st & 2nd practice the heavens opened, a typical Worcestershire downpour!!
That made for an interesting, but slower 2nd practice. 46.95 me, 44.62 Moggy
Lunchtime the sun shone!!!
With the track drying out mostly, in the 1st timed runs we were going better, 40.15 me, 35.01 Moggy.
2nd timed runs, I managed to break 40secs & did a 39.87, Steve went slower? 35.45.
Sun 26th
Steve & I were again in Class A3, but Classic Marques were running as well today, so Rob Pack is here in his re-built Tuscan race-car.
This is the first time he has used it in anger (so to speak), although he had a shakedown run here last year.
Hopefully the wheels are now pointing the right way!
1st practice, Steve & I started off, more or less where we had finished on Sat: me 39.90, Steve 34.96.
We had 3 practice runs this morning (no incidents) & both took off about another half second.
1st timed run, another half second: me 38.94, Moggy 34.12
2nd timed runs, a bit more for me 38.54, Steve again went slower 34.43.
Just shows how a long break affects your driving, we were both substantially off our PBs (personal bests).
Rob had a great time & gradually got quicker all day. His best time was on his 1st timed run, 35.64, which was of course his PB.
Great to see his now fiancée, Amy there. She was his mechanic for the day!!
A good weekend, but I did really miss being in the proper paddock, with its unique atmosphere (next year I hope).
